Hello everyone, Does anyone know what happened to my fellow Gruppo fan in the USA, Daniel Silverman and his rather excellent Gruppo Sportivo website which has disappeared of the face of the internet? He did do a favorable review of Topless 16 on amazon.com recently. I believe he was/is at UCLA. Is he Doctor Dan? Julian

Yeah, it's a Gruppo website indeed, but a pity that it's not up2date @ all. Nothing about the brilliant Topless 16 & hilarious DVD That was Dan, this is now?

Hi Mark, No, there was also another really informative and up to date website with great album cover graphics, commentary and notes about each album. It disappeared only a couple of months ago. The Dan I am talking about is a certain Daniel Silverman. It is a shame the website is gone. It even has a link on the GP website www.cogsci.uiuc.edu/~daniel/gstp.htmThe website you mention is by another Dan I believe, Dan Bryck. And yes it has been inactive for quite a while. It was the second site I found after Daniel Silverman's. Hopefully Mr. Silverman who is obviously a huge fan will surf this way soon and say hello. maybe he could offer his internet files for this website. It would be nice to see the the GP website added to. Julian

Hi, friends, good news, i'm still in (mail)contact with Dan Silverman now & then. He told me he moved a few times and is planning to move his Gruppo website to where he is living now, New York. He's also surprised & disappointed Topless 16 isn't doing more than it's doing I told him: remeber Shakespeare was only discovered yeeaaaars after he died & didn't even write his own material... Dan was glad to hear that... ;D

Hi Dan, Great to hear from you. Look forward to your site going back up soon. It really is a shame that more people do not get to hear Topless 16 in the USA. A great come back album. Did you ever see them live? Did you manage to get hold of Career Movies? I am still looking for an English website to buy it from. I have a universal cheap DVD player all ready to play the PAL format. Julian

Hi Mark, No I have not emailed Hans. I wish he would set up paypal or someone would at least sell Career movies on ebay. I think 10 euros on top of 16 for the DVD is a bit steep for shipping and handling. and I have to send an international money order up front! You have to go to a bank for that. That just about kills any casual purchaser from even trying to buy it. I will get it sooner or later though. Julian

hi folks, career movies is available here: www.musicstack.com/listings.cgi?find=gruppo_sportivo&t=career_moves_[dvd]&media=Allif the link doesn't work, just go to musicstack.com and do a search. I DID see Gruppo live in 2002, thus fulfilling a lifelong dream. I was in Den Haag (house-sitting for Meike Touw, with whom I've become good friends over the years), and the band was doing a reunion show down near brugge, in belgium. Hans, gerritjan, and a roadie whose name i forget piled into the car and drove down, and i even helped set up the "gear" a little (hehe, i do rockspeak now). There was a big crowd in the open air theater, right on the beach. it was fantastic!! the headliners were Sweet, can you believe it? as we were sitting in the dressing room before the show, the only remaining original member of sweet came along and started talking to me, asking me about the the band, and i told him i wasn't a musician. "oh, so you're the drummer then?" he said! Even dinosaurs have a sense of humor.

So...., it's cheaper to order it thru' the Gruppo site if you send your money cash in a friendly letter f.i. or you let a friend overhere pay the bill. Old fashioned maybe, but it still works!

hi,
well, i didn't take any pictures at the gig; i tried to be as unobtrusive and non-fan-like as possible.
i hate to see this thread go, what with its catchy title (!!), but anyone have topics for discussion? how we found gruppo? favorite/least favorite songs etc

You are welcome to open new topics Dan! We already discussed a lot of things in Dutch but since we have english speaking members now we will try to use english where we can!

Hi Dan, Mark, Kor, Carolien and everyone, Yes let's get some new topic threads going. Top Ten songs would be a good start. I will think about my favorites and post them soon. I still think we need a direct link to this forum from the Gruppo website in order to get some more traffic through here. I found the Gruppo site long before I knew this one existed. Promotion (or lack of) is what you need to succeed (or not). Mark can you help on this? Dan, did you get yourself a copy copy of the Career Movies DVD or do I have the only copy copy in the USA (almost). It's great! Concert footage, all the videos. Great stuff! Wish I spoke some Dutch for the interviews though. Took me back 25 years, just like that. Cheers, Julian
